7 brass bowls · Solid brass case · Etched mandala lid · Brass spoon
Brass Spice Box · Masala Dabba
£39.99
Walk into any Indian kitchen and you'll find one within arm's reach of the stove: the masala dabba. Lift the lid and the whole palette is there at once — turmeric, cumin, coriander, chilli, mustard seed — seven little bowls you dip into without breaking your stride. No rummaging through a cupboard of half-empty jars. No three-handed scramble while the onions catch. Just the spices you actually cook with, where you actually cook.
Ours is solid brass through and through: a heavy, satisfying case, seven removable bowls inside, and a small brass spoon resting across them. The lid carries an intricate etched mandala that catches the kitchen light — the sort of object you leave out on the counter rather than hide away. Because it's hand-finished in India, no two lids are quite alike; the small variations are the point.
This is the opposite of throwaway. Brass deepens and mellows in colour the more you use it, so it only looks better with the years. Keep it for dry spices — wipe clean and dry. Ready to give, it makes a properly considered present for anyone who loves to cook. Ships from our UK warehouse with free 14-day returns and your full statutory rights as standard.

Care, use & questions
Everything you need to keep your copper at its best.
How do I care for the brass?
Wipe the case and bowls clean with a dry or barely-damp cloth, and dry straight away. If you wash the bowls, use warm water with a little washing-up liquid and dry them immediately. Do not put brass in the dishwasher, and avoid soaking.
Why is the colour changing?
Brass naturally deepens and mellows in tone with use — most people love the warmth it takes on. To brighten it again, rub gently with half a lemon dipped in salt, rinse lightly and dry at once.
What should I store in it?
Whole and ground dry spices — cumin, coriander, turmeric, cardamom, chilli, mustard seed and the like. Keep it for dry goods only: wet pastes or acidic ingredients will react with bare brass.
Where is it made?
Each piece is made and finished by hand in small workshops in India — the etched lid pattern varies slightly from box to box, which is part of its character.
How long does delivery take, and can I return it?
We deliver across the United Kingdom from our UK warehouse — EU delivery is coming soon. If something isn’t right, you have 14 days to return it for a refund; see our Shipping & Returns page for the full details.
